From: publiccitizen@mail.democracyinaction.orgSubject: BP: Spill is "tiny"
|
Daniel, According to BP CEO Tony Hayward, the amount of oil his company is spewing into the Gulf of Mexico is "tiny" compared to "a very big ocean." Tiny? Experts estimate that BP's broken pipeline is pumping 50 times - 50 times! - more oil into the ocean than the company first stated publicly. Countless people could lose their livelihoods, and huge underwater oil plumes could devastate sea life and create massive dead zones. We have to send BP the message that its corporate conduct before and since the spill is flat-out unacceptable. Take the "Beyond BP Pledge" to boycott BP for at least three months. BP made $14 billion in profits in 2009 - one of its least profitable years of late - yet made a conscious decision not to install a $500,000 safety device that could have prevented the disaster. Hayward has understated the magnitude of the disaster from the moment it happened. But he got one thing right in a recent interview when he admitted that he "will be judged by the nature of the response." Tell BP what you think of its response! BP cares desperately about its image. It has spent millions insisting it is "Beyond Petroleum." Despite everything, the company thinks it can use PR tricks to evade accountability. We need concerted consumer action to make BP realize that it can't slip and slide its way out of this. Hold BP accountable by taking the "Beyond BP Pledge" today! Thank you, Glenn Public Citizen's Online Action Team P.S. Please forward this email to your friends, family and colleagues and help build the movement to hold BP accountable. | |
