Please help us continue to do great work like funding Blue America "Beat Boehner" cable television ads (they start Monday).

 Dear Daniel,

We don't have a new candidate we're endorsing this week but we do want to bring you up to date about some of the progress we've made and some of our most recent and exciting activities. This week our progressive candidate for the House in western Michigan, Fred Johnson, won his primary convincingly, with 59.9% of the vote. Thanks to everyone who donated to his campaign; he'll now face one of two bitterly divided right wing extremists who are neck and neck and appear headed for a divisive recount in the GOP primary.

This week our first BeatBoehner billboard went up, "119 Times!" (pictured above), 12 miles south of John Boehner's gated golfing community in West Chester, along the I-75. It's the design that got the most votes in our online contest. Boehner reacted like a novice, whining to the media that he didn't golf 119 times, but he refuses to say how many times he did golf. He also doesn't want to talk about his membership in the Burning Tree Golf Club in Maryland, a club that not only won't allow women members, but doesn't even allow women on the premises! And this is the guy who talks about representing ordinary Americans?!?! Blue America has a brand new TV spot addressing these issues starting to run in Butler County next week.

As a special treat for friends of Blue America we are offering a sneak preview of the ad before it goes public on Monday; see it here.  You can read about why we made it here. Right now we bought the time to run it for a limited period. If you like the idea of running ads in OH-08 and would like to see us keep them running longer, please consider contributing to the Blue America PAC itself.

We have two primaries coming up with candidates we've endorsed -- Doug Tudor's race against Florida Blue Dog Lori Edwards on August 24, and David Segal's primary on September 14 in Rhode Island. August and September are busy primary months with lots of important contests across the country. One very much worth watching was profiled by Doug Kahn yesterday at Down With Tyranny, Randy Parraz's race to win the Arizona Senate seat currently held by a rightward galloping John McCain. Another is the August 28th Democratic primary in West Virginia where progressive Ken Hechler is facing a heavily favored Democratic governor, Joe Manchin, who promises to be even more conservative than Blanche Lincoln or Ben Nelson! We hope to have Ken on for a chat at Crooks and Liars before then.

Thanks for doing what you can,
digby, John, Howie and the Blue America team
