Dear Daniel:     Thank you for your correspondence regarding H.R. 39, the Udall-Eisenhower Arctic Wilderness Act, sponsored by Rep. Ed Markey (D-MA). It was good to hear from you and I appreciate the opportunity to respond.    As you may know, this measure designates specified lands within the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR) as wilderness and components of the National Wilderness Preservation System. This designation would permanently exclude the area from future energy exploration activities.   Representing you is a great privilege and I will certainly keep your thoughts in mind if I have the opportunity to address this or related legislation in the future.   I hope that you will not hesitate to contact me regarding any matter where I might be of assistance.
