Hey, We've all heard about Constance McMillen, the Mississippi high school student whose school canceled prom rather than letting her bring her girlfriend (she was then sent to a 'fake prom' while her classmates partied at a secret location). Well, there's yet another dark side to being a teen like Constance that you might not know about. It's illegal for public schools to discriminate against students based on race, color, national origin, religion, sex or disability -- but lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender students are not explicitly protected by federal law. There's a bill in Congress right now that would change that. I hope you'll join me in writing to Congress and asking them to pass it immediately. http://www.hrcactioncenter.org/site/Advocacy?pagename=homepage&id=789 Unchecked discrimination can lead to violence and suicide. These kids need our help. Thank you.
