Daniel, Just when we thought things couldn't get worse for David Vitter, another shoe dropped in the scandal surrounding his violent former aide and friend, Brent Furer. As the Baton Rouge Advocate was first to report, David Vitter actually used taxpayer money to support Furer's defense efforts: Taxpayers footed the bill when a former aide to Republican U.S. Sen. David Vitter traveled to Louisiana on trips coinciding with court-related activities involving the aide's most recent DWI arrest. Unbelievable. Not only did David Vitter protect a known criminal he put in charge of "women's issues" after learning he violently abused his girlfriend, but now we've learned Senator Vitter operated "Con Air" using taxpayer funds to fly the aide to Louisiana for his court appearances. We just released a new video examining this breaking news. Watch it right now at SeriousSins.com: It's hard to overstate how outrageous it is for David Vitter to use taxpayer money — your money — to support an aide with a history of reckless drunken driving and violence against women. Just to put things in perspective, here's a bit more background from ABC News on the man your taxpayer dollars went to support: The timing of the trips, paid by Vitter's office accounts, has rekindled questions about the senator's key aide just as Vitter is battling for reelection. Earlier this year, ABC News first reported on the history of legal troubles that had trailed Vitter's aide, Brent Furer. His brushes with the law included a series of drunk driving arrests, a cocaine arrest, and an arrest for attacking a female friend in 2008. In that instance, the woman alleged that Furer held her hostage for 90 minutes, smashed her phone so she couldn't summon help, threatened to kill her, and cut her so seriously that she required stitches across her chin. Furer was found guilty on misdemeanor charges related to the altercation and permitted to return to work at Vitter's Washington, D.C. senate office, where his portfolio continued to include women's issues. This is yet another piece of evidence showing that from his actions to his record, David Vitter has continually disrespected women. It's time for him to finally come clean to Louisiana voters and answer questions about why he kept this violent man on staff, and why he misused taxpayers' money to fly him to court. Watch the video right now at SeriousSins.com, then forward this email to five friends so they can also learn about Vitter's latest scandal. Thanks for being a part of our team as we fight to hold David Vitter accountable and give Louisiana new leadership in the U.S. Senate. Sincerely, Bradley Beychok Campaign Manager Charlie Melancon for Senate |
