Reply from Senator Roy Blunt, What do you guys think of this?

Dear Daniel,

Thank you for contacting me regarding the Federal Communications Commission's (FCC) proposed rule regarding rural broadband services.

As you know, the Universal Service Fund (USF) is supposed to promote more affordable telecommunication access and availability for consumers. The Fund has grown to over $8 billion a year, but its focus has not changed even as the way people communicate has.

I believe that the USF needs to be refocused, moving away from traditional land-line phone subsidy and toward expanding broadband service to unserved areas of our country. This shift cannot and should not be done overnight, but we need a plan to move forward gradually.

The commercial sector has done an incredible job of expanding broadband access and availability across the country. It is clear that they cannot shoulder the costs alone. The federal government, through the USF program, has a role in sharing this cost, and I will continue to work to ensure that this change meets our country's evolving communication needs.

Again, thank you for contacting me. I look forward to continuing our conversation on Facebook (www.facebook.com/SenatorBlunt) and Twitter (www.twitter.com/RoyBlunt) about the important issues facing Missouri and the country. I also encourage you to visit my website (blunt.senate.gov) to learn more about where I stand on the issues and sign-up for my e-newsletter.

Sincere regards,

Roy Blunt

Dear Mr. Perez,

My name is Brendan Fahey and I am a staff member for U.S. Senator Claire McCaskill. On Tuesday, August 2, 2011, on behalf of the Senator, I will be hosting a "Kitchen Table Talk" in Elsberry at the Elsberry Public Library (501 Broadway Street) from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. The purpose of this meeting is to reach out to you, to listen to your thoughts and ideas about federal policies and legislation and to take them back to the Senator.

These "Kitchen Table Talks" also serve, in part, to inform you of the services that are available through Senator McCaskill's regional offices. The Senator's staff throughout the state are able to assist you on a range of federal government issues. If you are currently having an issue with a federal agency, I will be happy to discuss that with you and put you in touch with the member of the Senator's staff best suited to help with your issue.

Should you have any questions, please contact me at Brendan_Fahey@mccaskill.senate.gov or by calling (314) 367-1364. I hope you will be able to join me in Elsberry on August 2nd.

From the office of Congressman Todd Akin, DOMA Dumbass

Sent: July 25, 2011 09:03 AM
Subject: From the office of Congressman Todd Akin

Dear Daniel:

The federal Defense of Marriage Act was enacted in 1996 by large bipartisan majorities in both houses of Congress and signed into law by President Bill Clinton. It insured that states would not have to recognize same-sex "marriages" from other states, and that the federal government would recognize only the union of one man and one woman as "marriage."

Unfortunately, a small but vocal minority of the population has undertaken a campaign to undermine traditional marriage. H.R. 1116, the Respect for Marriage Act, is a recent attempt to redefine marriage.  This bill was introduced on March 16, 2011, and it is currently under review in the House Judiciary Committee.  If passed, it would repeal the Defense of Marriage Act, and give marital status to any person who was married in a state where it was allowed, regardless of whether the marriage was between one man and one woman.

42 states have passed Constitutional amendments or statutes to affirm the definition of marriage that has been in existence for centuries, but non-traditional marriage is legal in five states and the District of Columbia.  Support for the Respect for Marriage Act has been growing, and it is an important issue in Congress at the moment.

I believe the attack on traditional marriage is a seminal issue facing our country. America has a strong tradition of recognizing the family as a basic building block of society. There are many types of families, and I honor the sacrifices of single parents, foster parents and grandparents who undertake the responsibilities of parenting again. Yet, studies have consistently demonstrated what we have long known – the most healthy and stable environment for childrearing is a home where a mother and father love each other and both love their children.  This is why I support and will continue to fight for the Defense of Marriage Act.

Again, thank you for taking the time to contact my office. Please know that I will continue to work for my fellow Missourians in the legislative matters I am able to address.

It is a privilege to represent you and I hope that you will not hesitate to contact me regarding any matter where I might be of assistance. Please visit my website, where you can find more information on current issues, share further thoughts with me via email and subscribe to my e-newsletter for updates on issues you care about.

Count on Me to Stop Social Security Cuts

Sent: July 12, 2011 11:59 AM
Subject: Count on Me to Stop Social Security Cuts

Strengthen Social Security... Don't Cut It

Dear Daniel:

Social Security faces an immediate threat from politicians in Washington. They want to:

  • Cut Social Security’s COLA to reduce the deficit. But Social Security doesn’t contribute a penny to the deficit.
  • Raid Social Security to give corporations a tax break, jeopardizing the Social Security benefits you and 54 million other Americans rely on. Corporations shouldn’t get another hand out.

We can stop these cuts and this raiding of Social Security. Join thousands of Americans who will call their U.S. Senators this Thursday and Friday, July 14-15, to stop this outrage.

CAN WE COUNT ON YOU?

We need you to tell Congress: Stop the Social Security COLA cuts now! Don’t raid Social Security to give corporations another tax break!

Social Security belongs to you. You pay for it in every paycheck. It should not be used as a piggy bank by Washington’s politicians. Don’t let them cut it or raid it!

The cuts to Social Security’s COLA are significant – about $600 a year after 10 years and $1,000 a year after 20 years, on average. Today’s benefits are just $13,000 a year, on average.

In the deficit-reduction negotiations, there is a proposal to cut by one-third the amount corporations contribute for your Social Security benefits. Wall Street banks, Big Oil and other major corporations do NOT need another taxpayer handout. They are already making record profits, sitting on mountains of cash and creating few jobs.

COUNT ON ME ON JULY 14 & 15 TO Tell Congress: Don’t raid Social Security to give corporations another tax break! Don’t cut the Social Security COLA!

We can defeat these proposals – but it requires your urgent help. Decisions will be made any day now.

After you’ve made your personal “Count on Me” pledge, please forward this e-mail and tell your friends, family and co-workers through Facebook and Twitter.

Thanks,

Frank Clemente

Reply from Senator Roy Blunt - A true asshat

Jesus Christ, these asses can’t do anything positive for the country, nor, do they care what their constituents think.

Dear Daniel,

Thank you for contacting me on lighting energy efficiency.

I am a co-sponsor of the Better Use of Light Bulbs Act.  This bill repeals onerous performance standards for common light bulbs, set out in the Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007.

We must continuously take a hard look at overreaching federal regulations that do more harm than good.  While I support energy conservation, this regulation hurts consumers by preventing them from deciding which light bulbs are best for their needs.  Washington legislators and regulators must stop acting like they know what's best for American consumers and our economy.

Again, thank you for contacting me. Honoring their service with ours, First Lady Michelle Obama

Sent: July 04, 2011 08:34 AM
Subject: Honoring their service with ours

The White House, Washington

Good morning,

This Independence Day, I hope you’ll join me and my family in recognizing both our brave men and women in uniform and their families for everything they do to protect our country and our way of life.

We know that when our troops are called to serve, their families serve right along with them. For military kids, that means stepping up to help with the housework and putting on a brave face through all those missed holidays, bedtimes and ballet recitals. For military spouses, it means pulling double-duty, doing the work of both parents, often while juggling a full-time job or trying to get an education.

That’s why, a few months ago, Dr. Jill Biden and I started Joining Forces, a nationwide campaign to recognize, honor, and serve our military families. Our troops give so much to this country and they ask us for just one thing in return: to take care of their families while they’re gone. So we’ve put out a call to action. We’re urging all Americans to ask themselves one question: What can I do to give back to these families that have given so much?

To answer that question you can go to http://www.whitehouse.gov/joiningforces?utm_source=email119&utm_medium=te..." style="COLOR: #336699;">JoiningForces.gov and learn more about how you can get involved. And you can get started right now through Operation Honor Card by pledging to spend a certain number of hours serving military families in your community.
http://www.whitehouse.gov/blog/2011/07/01/honoring-their-service-ours?utm_sou...">
Our motto for Joining Forces is very simple: Everyone can do something. We've met folks in every corner of the country who are stepping up and helping out in their own small ways in their neighborhoods and in their communities. They’re popping over to rake the leaves, or bringing a family a home-cooked meal, or offering to babysit. And I know that if we each do whatever we can, if we all join forces, we can show military families across this country that we have them in our hearts, we have them in our prayers, and we always have their backs.

Happy Independence Day!

Sincerely,

First Lady Michelle Obama

P.S. Today, my husband and I will welcome troops and their families from across the country to the White House for a special USO concert and a great view of the fireworks on the National Mall. You can watch the whole thing live on http://www.whitehouse.gov/live?utm_source=email119&utm_medium=text&ut..." style="COLOR: #336699;">WhiteHouse.gov/live starting at 7 p.m. EDT.
